Richard Stim 2013 5th addition

“Copyright protection extends to any original work regardless of who created it, and permission is required for reproduction, display or distribution of the work.” pg 223

One of the main reasons you need to get permission is to avoid lawsuit. If the person is confident the family member or friend has consented there should be no cause for concern about lawsuit. Oral consents are vaild, but can cause problems when the consent needs to be proven.

“Copyright infringement occurs when copyrighted material is copied from or posted to a website without authorization from the copyright owner.” pg 224

“One attempt at deterrence (though not necessarily an effective one is to display a copyright notice prominently on some or all your Wed pages, clearly stating that the material is protected by copyright.” pg 228
